What is Food Banking?

Food banking is a sustainable social aid model that aims to collect, store, and distribute food, cleaning, and basic necessity products to people in need without waste. This system provides effective and long-term solutions in the fight against poverty.

Food Banking Activities at İyilikhane

At İyilikhane, we support orphaned and needy children through food banking activities by meeting their basic living needs. We carefully inspect donated items, accept only those with valid expiration dates, and deliver them in an organized way to families in need. In this way, we support children’s healthy nutrition as well as essential needs such as hygiene and clothing, while also easing the financial burden on families.

What Can Be Donated Within Food Banking?

  • Dry food and basic food products
  • Cleaning and hygiene products
  • Clothing and other essential items

Products that are expired or close to expiration are not accepted.

Why is Food Banking Important?

While large amounts of food are wasted every year worldwide, many children still cannot access sufficient nutrition. Food banking prevents waste by ensuring donated products are quickly processed and delivered to those in need, strengthening social solidarity.

How Does the Process Work?

At İyilikhane, the food banking process is carried out based on transparency and sustainability principles. The process follows these steps:

1. Acceptance of Donations
Individuals or organizations wishing to donate products within the food banking system must first contact our association during working hours via the contact information on our website and provide details about the donation (type, quantity, expiration date, etc.). The information received is quickly evaluated by our team based on storage conditions and current needs, and the donor is informed about the acceptance status.

2. Delivery of Donated Items to Our Organization
Donated items are received and carefully checked for expiration date, packaging condition, and hygiene standards. Items that do not meet the criteria are not accepted. All donations are recorded, and a receipt is provided to the donor.

3. Storage
Approved items are stored in warehouses that meet food safety standards.

4. Needs Analysis and Planning
Through ongoing social assessment studies, families in need are identified; aid planning is carried out according to their needs.

5. Regular and Fair Distribution
Products are delivered to families as quickly as possible at designated intervals, following the principle of fair distribution.

6. Monitoring and Reporting
All aid activities are regularly monitored, documented, and evaluated with a continuous improvement approach.
